Reminiscing – Part 1

Going to change things up a little.  Instead of blogging about what just happened, I’m going to blog about what just happened reminded me of.  You know, reminiscing.

Fran let me know about an IHeart radio station that plays songs from the 50’s and 60’s.  That, of course, would be my formative years – That’s right – The way I am can be blamed on Rock ‘n Roll.

Long before there were karaoke bars . . . long, long before karaoke was popular, my sister and I would lip sync in front of our parents.  They would sit there and be entertained for hours . . . hmmmmm . . . maybe they just said that, I was too young to know, but it sure made us feel good.

To give you some idea about how long ago this was, my brother was born 1959 and was too young to perform with us.  I don’t thing he could walk yet.

Anyway, I hadn’t thought about singing in front of mom and dad for years . . . decades actually.

Again, anyway . . .

I was on the trail a couple of weekends ago when THE song came on.  It was Bobby Darin’s version, but it was THE song.

My mom and dad weren’t into early rock ‘n roll, but they did have the Dean Martin version of it.

I sang the lead.  My sister sang backup, including the words in the parenthesis.  It started like this:

Ev’ry night I sit here by my window (window)
Starin’ at the lonely avenue (avenue)
Watching lovers holdin’ hand ‘n’ laughin’ (laughin’)
And thinkin’ ’bout the things we used to do

Things….. like a walk in the park
Things. … like a kiss in the dark

Thinking bout the things we use to do.

Love that song!!!
